President Trump has asked the late Senator Lindsey Graham's sister to run for a full six-year Senate term, saying there would be "nobody better" to fill the role.
Trump made the request during a meeting with Senator Darline Graham Nordone in the Oval Office. The 62-year-old Republican took over her brother's South Carolina seat on Monday.
An endorsement from Trump likely would guarantee her victory in the Republican primary.
"We have known each other for a long time — She is a spectacular person, and a true American Patriot," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He said he had directly urged her to enter the race during her visit to the White House.

"During her visit, I asked Darline, for the Good of our Nation, to run for the U.S. Senate in the Special Republican Primary on Tuesday, August 11, 2026," Trump wrote.
"I hope Darline does this, in that there would be nobody better to honor the legacy of her beloved brother, Lindsey."
Graham Nordone stepped into the seat this week, taking on a role her brother held for years in the Senate.
The special Republican primary is set for August 11, 2026. A win there would put her in a strong position to hold the seat for a full term.

Trump's public backing carries significant weight in Republican primaries, where his endorsements have shaped the outcome of races across the country.
His message framed the appeal around family and legacy, tying her potential candidacy directly to her brother's record in the Senate.
It remains to be seen whether Graham Nordone will accept Trump's request and formally launch a campaign. She has not yet announced her decision.
For now, she holds the seat as an appointed senator, with the special primary next August set to decide the party's nominee.
