Kofi Kinaata breaks silence after receiving comedy awards nomination, fans react

Highlife musician Kofi Kinaata has responded to his surprise nomination in a comedy awards category, and his reaction has kept fans talking.

The multiple award-winning singer took to Facebook on Friday, July 17, 2026, to address the news. His post was short, paired with a laughing emoji that said plenty on its own.

He set the moment to his own song, Black Stars, which added to the humour of the reaction.

Reports first surfaced on July 14 that Kinaata and dancehall star Shatta Wale had been shortlisted in the Alternative Comic Act category at the Comedy Awards.

The pairing of two musicians in a comedy field caught many people off guard. Fans immediately asked how singers ended up in a category built for comic acts.

The two join a mixed lineup of nominees. Gospel singer Broda Sammy, clergyman Prophet Kumchacha, media personality Oheneni Adazoa, content creator Ebo Noah, and retired boxer Braimah Kamoko, known as Bukom Banku, are all in the running.

The nominations raised eyebrows from the start. Followers questioned the logic behind the picks and waited to see how those named would react.

Kinaata’s laughing emoji appeared to be his answer. Rather than push back, he leaned into the joke.

The post drew a quick response from fans and followers online, with many seeing the funny side of it.

One commenter, Jonathan Tamakloe, offered a pointed take on the whole situation, joining the wave of reactions under the post.

Shatta Wale, the other musician on the shortlist, is one of the biggest names in dancehall. His inclusion added to the surprise around the category.

As of the time of Kinaata’s Facebook post, the response from the other nominees had not been widely reported.

The Comedy Awards have not publicly explained the reasoning behind the Alternative Comic Act selections. For now, Kinaata’s laughing emoji remains the clearest word from any of the
