President John Dramani Mahama has announced that as part of efforts to combat youth unemployment, his government will train young people in okada (motorbike) riding.

According to the President, young people will be provided with electric motorbikes as well to help reduce the reliance on fossil fuels and increase profit margins.

President, John Mahama delivered the maiden State of the Nation address of his second term in office in Parliament on Thursday, February 27th, 2025. During his address, he noted that youth unemployment remains one of the biggest challenges the country faces.

Mahama announced plans to tackle this issue first by establishing an apprenticeship project in which young people will be trained in various trades and upon graduation, be presented with an ‘apprenticeship’ kit.

Aside from that, Mahama also announced the okada training program, which will help young people acquire motorbikes and use it for their own businesses.

He added that due to the climate crisis, the riders will be provided with electric bikes.
