Ghana is currently mourning the tragic passing of Joana Yabane Deladem Aku, a 21-year-old Level 400 Biological Science student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Reports indicate that on Monday, Daniel, who is the prime suspect in the murder, allegedly stole Joana’s phone for reasons best known to him.
Joana later reported the incident to the police.
The following day, Joana and Daniel went to their department to study, but the tension between them was palpable.
As they left the department, two friends escorted them to the Disability and Rehab Centre of the university.
After the friends left, Daniel allegedly attacked Joana, pushing her from behind, hitting her on the ground, stamping on her, and using his knee to choke her until she became unresponsive.
He then dragged her into nearby bushes, took her phone and laptop to make it appear like a robbery, and fled the scene.
