Ghanaian radio personality Nana Romeo has urged officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to extend their investigations beyond their offices to the streets.

According to Nana Romeo, there are some young individuals who own and drive high-end luxury vehicles despite having no clearly identifiable source of income or legitimate business.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has been cracking down on financial crimes in Ghana, and Nana Romeo believes their efforts should be more thorough in addressing the root causes of these crimes.

In a video sighted by nsemwokrom.com, Nana Romeo expressed concern about the growing number of young people flaunting wealth without any clear means of acquiring it.

He said,

“We plead with EOCO, The rate at which some people are giving people pressure in this country, they shouldn’t just do it in the office, they should go to town and randomly pick cars, the cars that some people are riding in this country, it sometimes feels the one they use is just nothing’.

He continued and say, EOCO, should randomly stop and check cars from young guys, who have no business, yet drive expensive cars, and collecting peopel’s girlfriend’

Nana Romeo‘s comments have sparked a heated debate on social media, with many people calling for a more thorough investigation into the matter.

Some have even suggested that EOCO should work with the police to conduct a nationwide operation to identify and bring to book individuals who are engaging in such illicit activities.

However, others have cautioned against jumping to conclusions, pointing out that owning a luxury vehicle does not necessarily mean someone is involved in financial crimes.

In recent years, there have been several high-profile cases of individuals in Ghana being accused of financial crimes, including money laundering and tax evasion.

Some of these cases have involved prominent businesspeople and politicians, which has raised concerns about corruption and the lack of accountability in Ghana’s financial sector.

As a result, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has been working to strengthen its capacity to investigate and prosecute financial crimes.

The Ghanaian government has also been taking steps to address the issue of financial crimes in the country. In 2020, the government established the Office of the Special Prosecutor, which is tasked with investigating and prosecuting cases of corruption and financial crimes. The Office has been working closely with EOCO and other agencies to identify and prosecute individuals involved in financial crimes.

Nana Romeo’s call for EOCO to extend its investigations beyond their offices to the streets is likely to be met with support from many Ghanaians who are concerned about the growing trend of financial crimes in the country. However, as Dr. Akwetey has emphasized, it’s essential to approach this issue with caution and avoid stigmatizing or harassing people unnecessarily.
