Self-acclaimed pastor Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng and his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, have been re-arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court as investigations continue into allegations that the couple defrauded women through false promises of marriage and other schemes.
The case has attracted considerable attention after several women reportedly came forward with complaints against the couple. The latest proceedings form part of an ongoing criminal case in which Nana Yaw Bonsu faces multiple allegations, including conspiracy to commit crime and defrauding by false pretences.
The court has adjourned the matter to September 1, 2026, for the next stage of the proceedings.
The case first came to public attention in July after the Ghana Police Service announced the arrest of Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, describing him as a suspected romance scammer. Police said preliminary investigations indicated that he presented himself as a pastor conducting online church services on Instagram and allegedly used that platform to establish relationships with women.
According to the police, Nana Yaw Bonsu allegedly told some of the women that God had revealed they were destined to become his wives.
Investigators further alleged that he went beyond online conversations in building relationships with some of the women. Police told the court that he allegedly met members of their families and presented promise rings, actions which prosecutors say helped convince the women that he genuinely intended to marry them.
The allegations did not end with the purported marriage promises.
Police claim Nana Yaw Bonsu also represented that he operated a profitable car tyre business and allegedly convinced some of the complainants to provide money to help clear consignments of tyres.

Court records reported by the Ghana News Agency indicate that amounts allegedly obtained included US$33,000, GH¢25,000, US$4,000 and GH¢22,000, among other sums and foreign currencies. The prosecution alleges that the money was collected on the explanation that it was needed to clear tyre consignments, but the funds were not repaid.
Another serious aspect of the case concerns allegations involving private images.
According to prosecutors, Nana Yaw Bonsu allegedly obtained intimate photographs and videos from some of the women and later used the material to threaten or blackmail them when they demanded their money back.

Police further allege that some of the intimate material was shared with his wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, who is accused of subsequently threatening some of the complainants. Amoasah is facing conspiracy-related charges in connection with the case.
The prosecution has indicated that seven complainants had reported the matter to the police when the case was initially brought before the court. Investigators also said the alleged offences date back to 2021 and that additional people had contacted the police claiming to have been victims.
The couple's legal troubles began after police investigations into the complaints. According to the prosecution, Nana Yaw Bonsu and his wife allegedly went into hiding after some of the complainants pursued the matter despite police invitations.
The police said an intelligence-led operation eventually led to their arrest at a hideout on July 20, 2026. Nana Yaw Bonsu allegedly attempted to escape but was re-arrested, according to the prosecution.
When the case first came before the Accra Circuit Court, Nana Yaw Bonsu was remanded into police custody while his wife was granted bail of GH¢100,000 with two sureties. She was also ordered to report to the case investigator twice a week.
The case has since returned to court several times. On August 11, reports indicated that the court had again remanded Nana Yaw Bonsu after a bail application was unsuccessful.
A separate report by Peace FM later indicated that both accused persons were denied bail and that the matter was adjourned for further proceedings.
The latest re-arraignment therefore adds another chapter to a case that has continued to generate public interest because of the nature of the allegations and the number of women reportedly involved.
What Nana Yaw Bonsu And His Wife Face
According to the Ghana News Agency, Nana Yaw Bonsu has been charged with six counts of conspiracy to commit crime, namely defrauding by false pretences, as well as six counts of defrauding by false pretences. He also faces a charge relating to the alleged non-consensual sharing of intimate images, which is to be prosecuted before the High Court.
His wife, Sally Akosua Amoasah, has been jointly charged with six counts of conspiracy to commit crime, namely defrauding by false pretences.
It is important to stress that the allegations remain allegations. The fact that the couple have been arrested, charged or brought before court does not mean they have been found guilty. The prosecution will have to establish its case through the appropriate legal process.
The police have also appealed to anyone who believes they may have been targeted by Nana Yaw Bonsu or experienced similar circumstances to report to the nearest police station. Authorities say such reports could assist the ongoing investigation.
For now, the case remains before the Accra Circuit Court, with the next hearing scheduled for September 1, 2026. The proceedings will determine how the case progresses as the accused persons face the allegations brought against them.
