The manager of dancehall sensation Shatta Wale has revealed that there are currently no plans for the artist to be part of the Ghana Music Awards scheme. Sammy Flex, speaking on TV3’s New Day, explained that while Shatta Wale hasn’t completely ruled out a return to the awards, there hasn’t been any initiative taken to pursue membership in the scheme.
What Shatta Wale’s manager said
Flex emphasized that, while it’s not entirely off the table for Shatta Wale to join the VGMA in the future, it’s not a priority for them at the moment. He stated, “Joining VGMA is not part of our current objectives.” This suggests that the artist’s focus lies elsewhere, at least for now.
The decision not to engage with the awards scheme comes in the wake of the infamous altercation between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy during the 2019 edition, which led to both artists being indefinitely banned. Although Stonebwoy has been participating in the VGMA since the ban was lifted in 2021, Shatta Wale has remained steadfast in his boycott of the event.
