Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has called for flexibility as Ghana begins implementing a 30% gold purchase plan under the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Programme (GANRAP). The plan aims to have large-scale mining companies sell 30% of their gold output to the Bank of Ghana and Gold Board for local processing and refining.

Stakeholders' Cooperation Crucial for Programme's Success

Minister Buah commended the Chamber of Mines and large-scale mining companies for their cooperation throughout negotiations leading to the agreement. He assured the mining industry that his Ministry would continue engaging stakeholders to address any challenges that may arise during implementation. This assurance comes as the programme takes effect, with the Minister stressing the need for flexibility in addressing emerging concerns that must be resolved through collaboration in a manner that protects the national interest.

Central Bank Pledges Support for Programme's Success

Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama has pledged the central bank's support for the successful implementation of the programme. He said the BoG would work with all stakeholders to ensure that GANRAP delivers maximum benefits to the Ghanaian economy. The Governor's statement highlights the central bank's commitment to supporting the programme's objectives.

Programme's Potential Impact on Ghana's Economy

The programme has the potential to significantly impact Ghana's macroeconomic stability and financial management. Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Government, the Bank of Ghana, Ghana Gold Board, and the Ghana Chamber of Mines, large-scale mining companies will sell 30% of their gold output to the Bank of Ghana and Gold Board for local processing and refining. This move is aimed at building the country's reserves, with the refined gold being transferred to the central bank as part of efforts to accumulate national reserves.

Flexibility Key to Programme's Success

Minister Buah stressed the need for flexibility as the arrangement takes effect. He noted that emerging concerns must be resolved through collaboration in a manner that protects the national interest. This emphasis on flexibility is crucial in ensuring the programme's success, particularly in addressing any challenges that may arise during implementation.

Programme's Implementation to Benefit Ghanaian Economy

The successful implementation of the programme is expected to deliver maximum benefits to the Ghanaian economy. As the programme takes effect, stakeholders will work together to ensure that GANRAP delivers its objectives. With the central bank's support and the Minister's commitment to addressing emerging concerns, the programme is poised to make a significant impact on the country's economy.
