Mary Elizabeth Magill, also known as Liz Magill, is an American legal scholar and academic administrator who has made history as the first woman to serve as the president of the University of Pennsylvania .
She assumed office on July 1, 2022, succeeding Amy Gutmann, who had led Penn for 18 years.
Magill is the ninth president and 27th leader of Penn, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the United States.
On December 9, 2023, Magill resigned from her position at the University of Pennsylvania in response to the negative reaction to her testimony regarding antisemitism at Penn during a House of Representatives Committee on Education and the Workforce hearing.
