NSMQ 2026: Adiembra SHS outwits T.I. Amass in riddles to secure automatic one-eighth spot

Adiembra SHS Edges T.I. Amass in Intellectual Battle

At the SMS Auditorium, Adiembra SHS produced a stunning late comeback to edge out T.I. Amass, Kumasi and secure an automatic place in the one-eighth stage of the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ). The contest looked to be firmly in T.I. Amass' hands for much of the early stages, but Adiembra SHS managed to overturn their opponents in the final round.

Round-by-Round Battle

T.I. Amass opened the contest with 23 points, six points ahead of Adiembra's 17 points, while PRESEC, Bechem had 13 points. They maintained their advantage in Round Two, adding nine points to move to 32 points. Adiembra SHS, however, stayed within touching distance after scoring 13 points to reach 30, while PRESEC remained on 13 points.

The gap narrowed further in the Problem of the Day as both leading schools battled to maintain their momentum. T.I. Amass scored 4 out of 10 to move to 36 points, while Adiembra SHS answered three of the problems to reach 33 points. PRESEC, Bechem managed two points, taking their total to 15 points.

Final Round Transformation

T.I. Amass then regained some breathing room in Round Four, extending their lead to three points with 46 points, while Adiembra SHS moved to 43 points. PRESEC, Bechem had 26 points. With just the final round remaining, T.I. Amass appeared on course for the automatic qualification spot. But Adiembra SHS had other plans.

The final round transformed the contest. Adiembra SHS came alive in the riddles, answering three of the four riddles correctly and piling pressure on T.I. Amass. Their strong finish produced the decisive points they needed to complete the comeback, moving from three points behind to an eight-point victory.

Qualification and Impact

Adiembra SHS finished the contest on 54 points, while T.I. Amass ended on 46 points. PRESEC, Bechem completed the contest with 29 points. The late surge handed Adiembra SHS an automatic ticket to the one-eighth stage, capping a remarkable comeback after trailing T.I. Amass throughout the first four rounds.

For T.I. Amass, the defeat does not necessarily end their 2026 NSMQ campaign. Their 46-point score keeps them in contention for one of the five best runners-up slots available for schools that miss out on automatic qualification. T.I. Amass will therefore have to wait for the remaining preliminary contests to determine whether their score is strong enough to carry them into the one-eighth stage.
