A 22-year-old woman named Nicky Isabella, who was accused of being a ashaw0, was found guilty of child trafficking and given a five-year jail term with hard labor.
In a broadcast by GHOne TV, the Achimota Circuit Court found Isabella guilty of one count of conspiracy and two charges of human trafficking. Isabella was seen sobbing on camera after the court hearings, claiming she was innocent and “also a victim.”
According to information provided by Asaase Online, Isabella collaborated with an accomplice who is still at large and goes by the name Nelly.
The duo deceitfully offered two young ladies, Grace Ebeagbor, 23, and Kikelomo John, 22, employment at a store at Ability Square, Adjiringanor, Accra, in order to entice them to Ghana in May 2024.
The captives were forced into prostitution upon their arrival, and Isabella confiscated their profits. In a particularly unsettling detail, the court was informed that Isabella threatened to use the women’s hair for spiritual manipulation if they tried to flee, forcing them to cut it off and make an oath on the Bible.
Isabella entered a not guilty plea, but the prosecution, under the direction of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Isaac Babayi, produced strong evidence, including three witnesses’ statements.
To act as a deterrent to others, ASP Babayi asked the court to impose a severe punishment.
Achimota Circuit Court sentences 22-year-old prostitute, Nicky Isabella to 5 years in prison for human trafficking.
