A video making the rounds on X is drawing strong reactions after it showed a group of South Africans men walking into a shop believed to belong to a foreign national and helping themselves to shoes of their choice.
In the footage, the men are seen sitting comfortably inside the shop as they go through the stock, picking out pairs without any resistance shown on camera.
No violence is visible in the clip itself, but the calmness of the scene is exactly what has struck a nerve online, with many describing it as looting carried out in broad daylight and without shame.
The video comes at a time when tension between South Africans and foreign nationals running small businesses in the country has been building for months.
Reports out of South Africa this year have pointed to a wave of shop lootings and unrest linked to anti-immigration demonstrations, with foreign-owned spaza shops and retail stores repeatedly targeted in cities including Bloemfontein, Durban, and parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
Authorities in some of these cases have said the looting was criminal opportunism riding on the back of the protests rather than an organised part of them.
As with most videos of this nature, the shop owner’s identity, nationality, and the exact location of the incident have not been independently confirmed.
What is clear is that the clip has added itself to a growing list of viral moments capturing the strain between South Africans and the foreign business owners living among them, a tension that shows no sign of cooling off any time soon.

The video has since drawn a flood of comments on X, with opinions split down the middle. Nsemwokrom.com compiled some of the reactions below:
Benny_thegreat:
“This men are just lazy. If all the foreigners leave your country, I bet you, South Africa economy will nosedive because the citizens are actually lazy.”
deReply Clown:
“I thought they were going to take the shop and get themselves employed in it and sell the products…if it’s like this for them then they have a long way to go, the nation crisis that will hit them, many of the march and march will regret starting this..but until then we’ll keep watching from afar.”
Maxims:
“This is heartbreaking. No one deserves to have their business destroyed or looted because of their nationality. Innocent people who worked hard to build their livelihoods should be protected, not targeted. Violence, looting, and xenophobia only create more pain and division. Justice should be served, and every law-abiding person deserves safety and equal protection.”
Nhira Premium:
“This is not protest but robbery. How does anyone think this is acceptable. South Africa government must fix this because when other countries begin to retaliate, it will definitely affect the economy.”
Michael Olaogun:
“Someone who said that no South African should work and everyone should be collecting 1m Rands yearly. So who will create the value that’ll bring such money into the hands of millions of nonworking citizens? I’m disappointed in those who chose him as a leader honestly.”
