Queen Margrethe II is the queen of Denmark and the head of state. She is also the supreme authority of the Church of Denmark and the commander-in-chief of the Danish Defence.
She is the world’s only current queen regnant and the longest-serving current female head of state. She is also a scenographer, costume designer, and illustrator.
As sovereign, Margrethe has received 42 official state visits and she has undertaken 55 foreign state visits herself.
She and the royal family have made several other foreign visits.

Queen Margrethe II has two younger sisters: Princess Benedikte and Queen Anne-Marie. Princess Benedikte was born in 1944 and is the second daughter of Frederik and Ingrid. She married Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, a German nobleman, in 1968.
They have three children: Prince Gustav, Princess Alexandra, and Princess Nathalie. Queen Anne-Marie was born in 1946 and is the youngest daughter of Frederik and Ingrid. She married King Constantine II of Greece, her third cousin, in 1964.
They have five children: Princess Alexia, Crown Prince Pavlos, Prince Nikolaos, Princess Theodora, and Prince Philippos.
