The National Lottery Authority (NLA) is on track to eliminate paper-based transactions by the end of July 2026.
The NLA, in partnership with Fidelity Bank, is deploying point-of-sale (POS) machines to lottery vendors across the country. This move is part of efforts to modernise its operations and transition to a fully paperless lottery system.
According to Mohammed Abdul-Salam, the Director-General of the NLA, the Authority is determined to phase out manual recording of lottery transactions and ensure all staking is done electronically. "By the end of July, no one should be seen using pen and paper. We need to compel people to stake through the electronic equipment," he said.
The deployment of POS devices aims to improve efficiency, enhance transparency and accountability, and strengthen revenue mobilisation within the lottery sector. Fidelity Bank is supporting the NLA in this digital transformation agenda.
The NLA is taking a significant step towards modernisation with this transition. The shift from manual to electronic transactions will likely bring about increased convenience and security for players and vendors alike.
Lottery operations across the country are set to undergo a significant change. The NLA's decision to move to a paperless system reflects the global trend of adopting digital technologies to enhance efficiency and security.
The transition to a paperless system is expected to be completed by the end of July 2026.
