NDC Branch Organiser Arrested Over ‘Bawumia Is A Murderer’ Post

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Prince Aboagye, a 38-year-old National Democratic Congress (NDC) Branch Organiser in the Agona West Constituency, over social media posts allegedly directed at New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to the police, Aboagye was arrested after allegedly publishing posts on social media in which he described Dr. Bawumia as a murderer and used offensive language against him.

The police say the arrest forms part of investigations into the content shared on Aboagye’s social media accounts. Authorities have not publicly disclosed further details about the case or any charges that may be brought against him.

Prince Aboagye is a branch organiser for the National Democratic Congress in the Agona West Constituency. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was Ghana’s Vice President from 2017 to 2025, is currently the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer.

At this stage, the allegations against Aboagye remain those of the Ghana Police Service. The outcome of the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings will determine the next steps in the case.

Cases involving alleged offensive communication or defamatory social media posts have become increasingly common in Ghana in recent years, with law enforcement agencies investigating complaints made by individuals who believe they have been targeted through online publications. The specific legal process in Aboagye’s case has not yet been made public.

The arrest has already attracted attention online, with many Ghanaians discussing the development and debating the limits of political expression on social media. Others have urged users to exercise caution when making statements online, particularly when they involve allegations against public figures.

The Ghana Police Service is expected to provide further updates as investigations continue.
