Man Dies After Alleged Mob Attack Over GH¢4,800 Theft Accusation at Sabon Zongo

A 27-year-old man has died after being allegedly assaulted by a group of residents at Sabon Zongo in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region over accusations of theft.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 19, 2026, after Yussif Zakari and another suspect, identified as Baaba Adamu, were accused of stealing GH¢4,800.

Residents allegedly apprehended the two men shortly after the alleged theft, and tensions quickly escalated as an angry crowd descended on them, accusing them of being responsible for the missing money.

Yussif Zakari is said to have been severely beaten during the assault, sustaining multiple injuries. Despite efforts to save his life, he later succumbed to the injuries.
