Police Arrest 6 Suspected Robbers, Recover GH¢300,000 Stolen on Portor

The Bono East Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects believed to be involved in a highway robbery incident on the Portor-Gurumpe Highway and recovered GH¢300,000 allegedly stolen from a victim.

A team of police personnel swiftly responded to the scene, where they found about four suspects fleeing into a nearby bush. The officers managed to arrest Abdul Sadat Ali, 24, the driver of a Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 1541-25. During preliminary interrogation, he mentioned Samad Issahaka, 24, driver of a Kia Rhino truck with registration number AS 7337-23, as another member of the suspected robbery gang.

According to the police, the suspects, armed with a toy pistol, reportedly trailed the Kia Rhino from Offinso in the Ashanti Region, caught up with the vehicle after the Portor Police Barrier, and robbed the occupants of GH¢300,000 in cash.

The Bono East Regional Police Command commended the alertness and professionalism of the officers involved, as well as the support from the Counter Terrorism personnel in effecting the arrests. The Police assured the public of their continued commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining security across the Bono East Region.

The suspects were arrested after a thorough investigation, which revealed that Yahaya Seidu, 35, owner of the Kia Rhino, had instructed his driver to transport him to Buipe to purchase cattle. Police said the driver, knowing that his employer was carrying a large amount of money, allegedly conspired with five others to rob him on the highway.

The Police Counter Terrorism Unit, together with the local patrol team, pursued the fleeing suspects into the bush and arrested the remaining four suspects identified as Abdul Rahman Mashud, 21; Asigri Avoka, 25; Awini Stephen, 19; and Faisal Salifu, 26. A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of the entire GH¢300,000 allegedly stolen during the robbery.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted to trailing the Kia Rhino from Offinso and carrying out the robbery at Portor after receiving information from Samad Issahaka. All six suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with investigations.

The Portor-Gurumpe Highway is a major route connecting several towns in the Bono East Region. The arrest of the suspects has brought relief to the community, which has been plagued by highway robberies in recent months. The police have vowed to continue their efforts to maintain security and protect lives and property in the region.
