Court Jails Kpando Market Baby Thief for Three Years

A 31-year-old woman, Stella Amedzorme, has been sentenced to three years' imprisonment for abducting an eight-month-old baby at the Kpando Market in the Volta Region. The incident occurred on July 17, 2026, when the baby's mother, Gloria Xagbe, 21, reported to the Police that she had briefly left her child in the care of Amedzorme, a fellow market trader.

Police Secure Conviction in Baby Theft Case

The conviction was secured by the Volta North Regional Police Command after Amedzorme pleaded guilty to the offence before the Kpando Circuit Court. The Police launched investigations and, through intelligence-led operations, arrested Amedzorme the following day at Toviate, a suburb of Kwamekrom in the Oti Region.

Abduction Claimed to be on Fiancé's Instructions

During investigations, Amedzorme reportedly admitted taking the child, claiming she acted on the instructions of her fiancé, who is currently on the run. The Police say efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest her fiancé to assist with further investigations.
