A 2-year-old boy was shot dead by a 4-year-old relative in Florida, after the younger child found a gun in a car and discharged it while the family was arriving at an Airbnb for a vacation.

The incident occurred on Sunday in Kissimmee, Florida, where the family had traveled from Louisville, Georgia, to stay at the vacation rental home. According to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office (OCSO), the 4-year-old relative grabbed an unsecured firearm belonging to the victim's mother in the vehicle outside the home.

Emergency services rushed the toddler to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, where he was later pronounced dead. The family member who was taken to hospital with chest pains due to the extreme distress caused by the incident has since been discharged. The OCSO spokesperson stated that family members were outside the car and had not yet entered the home when they heard a gunshot coming from inside the vehicle.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with the homicide unit attending the scene and the Medical Examiner's Office and the Department of Children and Families notified. The sheriff's office has said that charges are possible, pending a conversation with the state attorney. The OCSO spokesperson added that the family have been cooperative and are free to come and go.

This tragic incident is not the first of its kind in Kissimmee, Florida. Just last month, 5-year-old twin girls from Georgia drowned in a swimming pool at a short-term rental in the same area. The incident highlights the importance of ensuring the safety of children, particularly in situations where they are left in the care of others.

As the investigation into the shooting continues, the community is left to grapple with the devastating consequences of this incident. The Osceola County Sheriff's Office has assured the public that they are working tirelessly to establish the exact relation between the two children involved in the incident.
