Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will miss the rest of the 2023 season due to a fractured throwing shoulder.
Watson injured his shoulder in the Browns’ Week 7 game against the Baltimore Ravens. He left the game in the second quarter and did not return.
An MRI revealed the fracture, and Watson will undergo surgery to repair the injury.
The Browns have not yet announced a timetable for Watson’s return, but he is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
This is a major blow to the Browns, who were hoping to make a playoff push this season.
Watson was acquired by the Browns in a trade with the Houston Texans in March. He was serving an 11-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy at the time of the trade.
Watson is expected to make a full recovery from his injury and will be a key player for the Browns in 2024.
The Browns will likely turn to Jacoby Brissett to start at quarterback for the rest of the season.
Brissett started the first four games of the season for the Browns while Watson was serving his suspension. He threw for 1,231 yards and four touchdowns with five interceptions.
The Browns are now 3-5 on the season and are in third place in the AFC North.
They will play the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
