The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has issued a three-day ultimatum to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Police Service to take immediate legal action against a student who allegedly attacked and permanently injured a teacher in Offinso.

According to GNAT Secretary, Mr. Musah Tanko, the incident occurred when the teacher confronted a student who was loitering after the designated break period. The teacher instructed the student to return to the classroom, but the situation escalated, resulting in the student stabbing the teacher in the left eye. Tragically, the teacher has lost the use of his left eye permanently, marking a devastating turn in his life and career.

In his statement, Mr. Tanko demanded immediate justice and adequate compensation for the victim, emphasizing the severity of the case. “Whatever compensation is due to the teacher must be given to him,” he stated.

GNAT has also warned the GES and the Police Service that failure to address the issue promptly would leave the association with no choice but to escalate its actions. “If by next week we do not hear any positive developments, we will decide on the next line of action,” Mr. Tanko declared, underscoring GNAT’s commitment to ensuring justice for its members.
