Queen Margrethe II is the queen of Denmark and the head of state. She is also the supreme authority of the Church of Denmark and the commander-in-chief of the Danish Defence.
She is the world’s only current queen regnant and the longest-serving current female head of state. She is also a scenographer, costume designer, and illustrator.
As sovereign, Margrethe has received 42 official state visits and she has undertaken 55 foreign state visits herself.
She and the royal family have made several other foreign visits.
Queen Margrethe II Husband: Meet Prince Henrik of Denmark
Queen Margrethe II’s husband was Prince Henrik of Denmark, who died on February 13, 2018, at the age of 83. He was born Henri Marie Jean André de Laborde de Monpezat on June 11, 1934, in Talence, France.
He was the son of Count André de Laborde de Monpezat and Countess Renée de Monpezat.
He met Princess Margrethe in London in 1965, where he was working as a secretary at the French embassy. They married in Copenhagen in 1967 and had two sons: Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim.
Prince Henrik had a long career as a diplomat and a patron of various cultural and humanitarian organizations. He was also an avid poet, artist and wine producer.
