Queen Margrethe II is the queen of Denmark and the head of state. She is also the supreme authority of the Church of Denmark and the commander-in-chief of the Danish Defence.
She is the world’s only current queen regnant and the longest-serving current female head of state. She is also a scenographer, costume designer, and illustrator.
As sovereign, Margrethe has received 42 official state visits and she has undertaken 55 foreign state visits herself.

Queen Margrethe II has two sons: Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim. Crown Prince Frederik was born in 1968 and is the heir apparent to the throne. He married Mary Donaldson, an Australian-born marketing consultant, in 2004.
They have four children: Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent, and Princess Josephine. Prince Joachim was born in 1969 and is the second son of Margrethe and Henrik.
He married Alexandra Manley, a Hong Kong-born businesswoman, in 1995 and divorced her in 2005.
They have two sons: Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix. He married Marie Cavallier, a French-born advertising executive, in 2008. They have two children: Prince Henrik and Princess Athena.
