Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has revealed how much he makes as a Ghanaian lawmaker. The lawmaker, who was once a musician and political activist, claimed that although he was committed to helping his community, the salary was not enough.

A-Plus emphasized the taxing aspect of legislative duties in an interview with Adom FM on Thursday, April 3, 2025, stating that his monthly income, after all deductions, was only GH₵15,000.

My primary goal is to solve people’s issues. I founded the others’ project in order to assist others. I don’t think it’s a problem; I’ll help if someone comes to me with a problem and I know I can. However, the pay is inadequate, and becoming an MP is quite challenging. He clarified that you only get GH₵15,000 at the end of the month.

When A-Plus looked into his financial situation before being a member of parliament, it showed that he was making a lot more money in his private life than he does now. He asserted that in the past, his daily income had surpassed his whole monthly parliamentary pay.

“It’s evident from my 2020 bank statements that I was earning far more money prior to going into politics. “I could make more money in a day than I currently make in a month as an MP,” he said.

The MP acknowledged that his opinion of the parliamentary chamber has altered since entering, but he also commended the work of his fellow lawmakers. He said that he had previously misjudged the effort and obligations of MPs, as had many other outsiders.
