Dr. Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, Igbo King in Ghana, has led an entourage of Igbo tribesmen to Kumasi to pay their respects at the funeral rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

The visit took place on the third day of the solemn ceremonies, which have drawn traditional leaders, dignitaries and well-wishers from across Ghana and beyond.

King Ihenetu’s presence reflects the bond between the Igbo community and the Ashanti Kingdom.

Dressed in traditional regalia, he and his entourage joined thousands of mourners gathered to honor the life and legacy of the late Queen Mother, who was revered for her role in upholding tradition and supporting the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The funeral rites, held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, have been marked by rich displays of Akan culture, including drumming, dancing and traditional rites observed by chiefs and elders. The Queen Mother’s passing has been described as a significant loss, given her influence within the royal court and her guidance to women leaders in the Ashanti Kingdom.

As the rites continue, the Asantehene is expected to receive more delegations of leaders and mourners until the final day of ceremonies. For many, the funeral is not only a farewell to a beloved Queen Mother but also an important reminder of the strength of Ghana’s traditions and the connections they foster across communities.
