Renowned Ghanaian actress and filmmaker Yvonne Nelson has spoken out about her subpar academic achievement in senior high school, attributing it to a challenging learning environment and her intense passion for entertainment.
The actress claimed in a JoyNews interview that while attending Aggrey Memorial Senior High School, her priorities were showbiz and not academics.
Because she felt she wasn’t ready enough to pass, Yvonne said that she skipped her Costing and Accounting paper during the test.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) organizes the November-December (NovDec) exams for students who wish to retake failed papers or improve their scores and thus compelled her to register for them.
According to Yvonne, she passed on her second try after failing her first attempt in NOV/Dec. This was explained by the fact that she participated in a lot of extracurricular activities while she was a student.
She demonstrated how serious she was about music at the time by claiming to be a member of a rap group and referring to herself as the “Lauryn Hill” of the act. She said she had little time for school since her passion for entertainment consumed much of her focus.
During her stay at the school, Yvonne Nelson also voiced issues over the food and hygienic conditions. Although things could have been different now, she pointed out that her experience at the time was far from perfect.
