Multiple-Award Winning Western-basedGhanaian DJ, DJ Wasty Kay, has called on the government to abolish the 1-cedi note, saying it is affecting the work of DJs and MCs.

In a video sighted by Ghanaian blogger King Bygone, the DJ expressed frustration over how people spray small amounts of money on DJs during events.

He explained that when someone sprays five 1-cedi notes, it only adds up to 5 cedis, which he believes is not encouraging for entertainers who rely on such gestures as part of their income.

According to him, the practice is “destroying” their work because it undervalues the effort DJs and MCs put into keeping events lively.

He argued that if the 1-cedi note is scrapped, people would be forced to spray higher denominations, which would better support entertainers financially.

His appeal has sparked mixed reactions online. Some social media users sympathized with his point of view, saying entertainers deserve more for their craft. Others, however, argued that people should not be forced to give beyond their means.

DJ Wasty Kay’s comments highlight a broader debate about how entertainers in Ghana are compensated and respected in their line of work.
