Beverly Afaglo died on May 24, 2026. She was 42 years old. Four days later would have been her 43rd birthday.
Her final funeral rites are scheduled for August 7, 2026, at the Lashibi Funeral Home in Greater Accra. Ghana’s entertainment industry has lost people before. But the circumstances of this one, the age, the cancer that took two years to finish what it started, and the footage of her husband falling apart at the airport, have landed differently.
Who Beverly Afaglo Was
Beverly Afaglo built her career across Ghanaian television, film, and stage. She was among the most recognisable faces in West African media, the kind of presence audiences trusted on screen without needing to know why. She married Eugene Kwadwo Boadu Baah, known to Ghanaians as Choirmaster of the music group Praye, and that marriage put her at the centre of two industries simultaneously.
Her family confirmed cancer as the cause of death at her one-week observance. She had been fighting it for two years.
Choirmaster at the Airport
Choirmaster returned to Ghana from the United States ahead of the funeral. The footage from the airport has been circulating widely. He was not composed. Praye Tiatia led the team that came to receive him, and they arrived in matching black T-shirts printed with Beverly Afaglo’s photograph. The moment of Choirmaster breaking down on arrival was filmed and shared, and by any measure it is one of the rawest public displays of grief Ghana’s entertainment industry has seen from one of its own.
That image, a man known for performing in front of crowds, undone in an arrivals hall by the weight of returning home to bury his wife, is what the country has been sitting with this week.
What Follows
The burial is private, following the funeral rites. Friends, family, and a significant portion of the Ghanaian entertainment community are expected to attend. Vivian Jill and Roselyn Ngissah both broke down publicly at Beverly Afaglo’s one-week observance in June. Tomorrow will be harder.
