Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has requested that President John Dramani Mahama halt the well-known free SHS program if the many issues surrounding it aren’t resolved.
He expressed worries about the Free SHS policy’s uneven academic schedules, housing difficulties, and food shortages.
“It would be better to cancel the policy if the students would go to school under the Free SHS policy and not be fed due to food shortage; face accommodation challenges; and vacate after a few days in school,” he said while speaking at Manhyia Palace during a visit by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu. Or, for those who can afford it, it may be evaluated.
The government is working on ways to enhance policy management, meals, and accommodations, the education minister said.
“Let’s review Free SHS and allow those who have means to pay to pay as Gov’t funds those who are brilliant but needy” –
