Abena Moet has addressed the criticism she received following the views she expressed regarding Nana Mcbrown’s exit from UTV.
In an interview on GHOne TV’s Toast with Maame Animwaa she did not say the actress and TV host showed no appreciation to UTV despite benefitting from them.
She explained that the entirety of the video in question was a testament to her praise for Mcbrown, yet only a brief segment was selectively highlighted to fuel the controversy.
While explaining herself, she said, “It’s part of my job,” Moet stated, emphasizing that no one directed her to say anything specific.
Moet added, “We are proud of her because we all know that she doesn’t have any formal education in journalism because she never went to media school, but she was able to host a show and did it so well.”
She explained that her comments were intended to praise McBrown’s achievements despite lacking formal journalism training, a view she feels was misunderstood.
“That was the joke part,” she clarified, adding that the full ten-minute segment was filled with compliments for McBrown.
She expressed her displeasure with the exaggerated headlines that emerged, which distorted her statements and led to a significant adverse response, even leading to reports of her Instagram account by McBrown’s followers.
In the face of the controversy, Moet maintains her support for McBrown’s achievements and clarifies that her comments were not meant to offend.
Highlighting the importance of considering the context in media reporting, she urges the public to fully understand the context in which her statements were made.
