Arsenal are close to wrapping up a deal to sign Jakub Kiwior with Daily Star Sport investigating what the Polish defender will bring to the Premier League leaders

Arsenal is moving quickly to sign defender Jakub Kiwior in the January transfer window, according to the north London club.

The 22-year-old Polish international is anticipated to sign a £22 million transfer as Mikel Arteta plans a last-ditch effort to win the Premier League for the Gunners for the first time since their unbeatable 2003–04 season. Leandro Trossard’s transfer to Arsenal is also anticipated to be announced later today (January 20).

The London club placed a high focus on making a headline defensive signing, and in order to land Kiwior, they had to fend off interest from rival clubs Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United.

Kiwior, who was raised in Tychy, Southern Poland, had contracts with local club GKS Tychy and Belgian powerhouses Anderlecht before deciding to move to Slovakia and join with FK Zeleziarne Podbrezova. The remainder of the 2018–19 season saw the young Polish star play in every match, but Podbrezova finished last in the Fortuna Liga, leaving him powerless to save the team from being relegated.

When Poland’s U19 team qualified for the European Championships, Kiwior led the team, earning himself a return to Slovakia’s top division of football in the summer of 2019. He paid a modest £250k to join MSK Zilina, and in his first season at Stadion pod Dubnom, he made 22 appearances.

The Covid-19 pandemic put Zilina into liquidation in 2020, forcing them to dismiss 17 first-team stars; nevertheless, Kiwior was retained as the squad finished second in the Fortuna Liga.

The center-back, who can either play left-back or sit in front of the defense, joined Spezia for £2 million in 2021 after making a significant impact for Zilina.
