Togo declines Ghana’s request to host Sudan at Kégué Stadium

Togo
Togo have reportedly rejected Ghana’s request to play their game against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Kégué Stadium.

According to PURE TV, Togo holds that they would need the venue in good condition for their home game against Algeria in the qualifiers.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) were reportedly considering moving Ghana’s next home game against Sudan to Togo.

Ghanasoccernet reported that the GFA was considering two neighbouring countries, Togo and Ivory Coast, but favours hosting the game at Togo’s national stadium.

Following the rejection by Togo, Ghana now have Ivory Coast as the only option to host Sudan.

The GFA are in search of a neutral venue due to CAF withdrawing its approval of Baba Yara Sports Stadium to host Ghana’s remaining home games.

Ghana do not have an international standard stadium available as all national stadiums have been closed for renovations.

The National Sports Authority (NSA), which is in charge of all national stadiums, closed the Baba Yara Sports Stadium following criticisms over the poor condition of the pitch after the Black Stars‘ defeat to Angola.

They further closed two more, Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Sports Stadium after the two venues were also deemed unfit to host the game.

If the venue is not ready in time, Ghana would have to play at a neutral venue as the remaining three national stadiums are all deemed unfit to host CAF category 3 matches.

The Ghana-Sudan first-leg tie is slated for October 7, 2024.
