Sandy Alcantara is a professional baseball player from the Dominican Republic. He was born on September 7, 1995, in San Juan de la Maguana, Dominican Republic.

Alcantara is a starting pitcher for the Miami Marlins in Major League Baseball (MLB).

Alcantara signed with the St. Louis Cardinals as an international free agent in 2013.

He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Gulf Coast League Cardinals, and worked his way through the Cardinals’ minor league system, eventually reaching Triple-A Memphis in 2017.

Alcantara made his MLB debut with the Cardinals on June 29, 2017, but was later traded to the Marlins on December 14, 2017, as part of the trade that sent outfielder Marcell Ozuna to St. Louis.

In his first season with the Marlins in 2018, Alcantara appeared in eight games, starting six of them and finishing with a 2-3 record and a 3.44 ERA.

He became a regular in the Marlins’ rotation in 2019, making 32 starts and finishing with a 6-14 record and a 3.88 ERA.

Alcantara had a breakout season in 2020, posting a 3-2 record and a 3.00 ERA in 42 innings pitched.

He was named an All-Star for the first time in his career and finished 13th in the National League Cy Young Award voting.
