Afrobeats superstar Divine Ikubor, better known as Rema, has caused a buzz on social media with his recently concluded ‘Ravage Uprising’ 02 Arena show in the UK.

The ‘Calm Down’ crooner undoubtedly unlocked a new level in the Nigerian music industry with his performance at the sold-out 20,000-seat arena.

Rema

Performing at the concert, Rema opened his act with his latest hit ‘DND,’ showing up in an all-black ensemble with a mask, atop a stationary horse.

There were also other suggestive visuals of bats and skeletons at the arena, sparking a huge controversy online, with some people labeling them as ‘demonic.’

As expected, Nigerians have flooded social media with their opinions about the concert, with some criticizing Rema for the extreme visuals, while others defended him.

“Meanwhile, Rema has taken to social media to explain that the theatrics were a symbolism of his Benin heritage and that the mask represents the Benin Bronzes taken from Africa years ago, and being displayed in UK museums.

He shared a video montage of the concert with the caption,

“RAVAGE UPRISING/ My Ancestor’s bronzes sit in the museum of this very city so I remade mine. Hence, Edo is redefined, the map reshaped, your minds awakened & the mask reborn.

Thank you, London! 🦇🇬🇧”
