Renowned Kumawood actress Portia Asare has shared one of the most heartbreaking moments from the early days of her acting career.
In an emotional revelation, she recounted how she was unfairly judged and sidelined simply because of her background in the local movie industry.
Portia recalled being cast in a major production, an opportunity she was thrilled about as it had the potential to expand her reach beyond the Kumawood industry.
However, her excitement was short-lived when she learned that another actress, originally part of the project, chose to withdraw simply because of her involvement.
According to Portia, the actress, known for starring in English-speaking films, objected to working with her. Upon being confronted by the producer, she allegedly stated that Portia was “too local” and did not meet the standards of the movies she preferred to be associated with.
Hearing those words was a devastating experience for Portia. She admitted that it deeply affected her confidence and made her feel unappreciated in an industry she was striving to succeed in. She had always believed that talent should be the defining factor in acting, rather than the language spoken or the type of movies an actor starred in.
