The club announced the devastating news early on Tuesday morning.

Padres CEO Erik Greupner shared a statement on the loss.

“The Padres organization mourns the passing of our beloved Chairman and owner, Peter Seidler. Today, our love and prayers encircle Peter’s family as they grieve the loss of an extraordinary husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Peter was a kind and generous man who was devoted to his wife, children, and extended family. He also consistently exhibited heartfelt compassion for others, especially those less fortunate. His impact on the city of San Diego and the baseball world will be felt for generations. His generous spirit is now firmly embedded in the fabric of the Padres. Although he was our Chairman and owner, Peter was at his core a Padres fan. He will be dearly missed.”

Seidler was a two time cancer survivor and was recovering from an undisclosed procedure done in September. He had still been battling an illness for months.

The Home Plate Gate at Petco Park will be open beginning this afternoon for those who wish to pay their respects. Free parking will be available at Tailgate Lot.

The Padres will suspend all non-essential business while the organization mourns the loss of a great owner and a great man.

Reimagining the Padres

Seidler’s acquisition of the Padres marked a new era for the team. His leadership brought a fresh perspective and a commitment to building a winning franchise. Under Seidler’s ownership, the Padres saw significant changes. His willingness to invest in top talent showed his passion for the game and for winning.

Beyond the field, Seidler was known for his community involvement. His commitment to the San Diego area, through various charitable initiatives and community projects, made him a beloved figure.

He will be missed.
