Broderick Smith was an Australian musician, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He was born on January 12, 1949, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
Smith first gained recognition in the 1970s as the lead singer of the blues-rock band Carson. The band released several albums and had several hit songs, including “Boogie,” “On the Air,” and “Travelling South.”
After Carson disbanded in 1978, Smith pursued a solo career. He released his first solo album, “Suitcase,” in 1981, which included the hit single “Faded Roses.”
Smith continued to release solo albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including “Domestic,” “Days of the Greats,” and “Unknown Country.”
In addition to his solo work, Smith has collaborated with other musicians, including the Dingoes, Richard Clapton, and the Black Sorrows.
He had also worked as a music producer and has produced albums for artists such as Matt Walker and Archie Roach.
Smith is known for his powerful and soulful voice, as well as his ability to play a variety of instruments, including harmonica, saxophone, and guitar.
He had been inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame as a member of the Dingoes and has received numerous other awards and accolades for his contributions to Australian music.
Smith died on 30 April 2023, at the age of 75.
