Hon. Sam George, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, has confirmed that President-Elect John Dramani Mahama will not attend the State of the Nation Address delivered by outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
According to Hon. George, President-Elect Mahama is currently out of the country attending to critical engagements ahead of his swearing-in ceremony scheduled for January 7, 2025. Speaking to the press, he explained that Mahama’s absence should not be misconstrued, as he remains focused on preparing for the transition of power.
“Mahama is currently on official duties outside the country, ensuring Ghana’s position remains strong on the global stage. He’ll be fully ready to take over the reins on January 7,” Hon. Sam George stated.
In his remarks, the Ningo-Prampram MP also called on President Akufo-Addo to use this opportunity to issue a formal apology to Ghanaians for what he termed as the “untold hardships” citizens endured under his administration.
“I expect the President to use this moment to apologise to the good people of Ghana for the economic challenges and governance lapses over the past years,” he said.
The State of the Nation Address is a constitutional obligation of the President to outline the current condition of the country and offer reflections on their administration’s tenure. President Akufo-Addo’s final address comes as his second term draws to a close, paving the way for the incoming administration of President-Elect Mahama.
Mahama’s absence underscores the transitional activities underway as the nation prepares to usher in its new leadership.
