An elderly married couple was allegedly murdered on New Year’s Eve at a Florida senior living community by a Georgia woman who has been charged with murder.
According to the station KBTX, Vickie Williams, 50, was ordered held without bond in the Lake County Jail for the deaths of Shannon Getman, 80, and Darryl Getman, 83, who were shot and killed in the Watertown Village retirement community in Mount Dora. Vickie Williams appeared in court remotely on Saturday.
Williams is accused of stealing the victims’ car and was previously charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle. He now faces two counts of first-degree murder.
Police have still not revealed how the Getmans died, and no motive has been given away more than a week after the killings.
The fatal assault seemed to be a random, “once in a lifetime event,” according to investigators, and the suspect had no known connections to the neighborhood.
At a press conference last week, Mount Dora Interim Police Chief Mike Gibson revealed that on the afternoon of December 30, Williams was “dressed in a particular way” and was led by security out of the Waterman Village complex.

She was initially described as a person of interest before being named a suspect in the double homicide.
The Getmans had lived in Mount Dora for 20 years. They are survived by their grown son and daughter and their grandchildren.
“If there are words to describe what has happened and its impact to our family and the community, we have not found them,” the couple’s heartbroken children said in a statement.
