William Hague is a British politician and former leader of the Conservative Party. He was born on March 26, 1961, in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England.

Hague was first elected to Parliament in 1989, representing the constituency of Richmond, Yorkshire. He went on to hold a number of positions within the Conservative Party, including Chairman, Secretary of State for Wales, and Leader of the Opposition.

In 1997, he was elected leader of the Conservative Party, a position he held until 2001.

After stepping down as leader of the Conservative Party, Hague served as Shadow Foreign Secretary, and then as Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs from 2010 to 2014.

He was also a Member of Parliament for the constituency of Richmond (Yorks) from 1989 to 2015, when he retired from politics.

In addition to his political career, Hague is a prolific writer and has published several books, including biographies of William Pitt the Younger and William Wilberforce.
