Ronald Eugene Rivera, nicknamed “Riverboat Ron”, is an American football head coach for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL).
Prior to becoming a coach, he played college football for the Golden Bears and was recognized as an All-American linebacker.
He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the second round of the 1984 NFL Draft and played for the team for nine years, including as a part of the 1985 team that won Super Bowl XX.
Rivera’s coaching career began in 1997 when he served as a quality control coach for the Bears.
