After battling ALS, comedian and improv actor Michael Lehrer, known for his roles in “Second City” and “Masters of the Internet,” passed away. Loss of muscle control is a result of this degenerative nervous system disorder, which alters how the brain and spinal cord work.

Colette Montague, who served as his caregiver and was also his girlfriend, verified his passing. To the Chicago Sun-Times, Colette stated:

“Michael passed away on his terms and with dignity. He had no suicidal thoughts at all. The hardest choice he had ever made was to receive medical assistance in dying.

Lehrer left behind his partner Colette, son Colin Heaton, and a few other family members at the time of his passing.

Due to his ALS battle, the comedian and sketch artist performed at clubs while using a wheelchair, demonstrating his genuine devotion for his craft. He makes jokes about both his life and his struggle with the sickness of the neurological system.

Lehrer was chosen for the “New Faces of Comedy” presentation at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal in 2014. He produced four original sketch revues, including Sky’s The Limit for The Second City, which won the Jeff Award for Best Revue. Lehrer also frequently voiced his opinions during open forums at Las Vegas City Council meetings on various subjects.

Lehrer frequently appeared on “Kill Tony”, a live comedy podcast based in Austin, Texas, in which Joe Rogan often appeared. Rogan also paid tribute to him in his Instagram post.

“The courage this man had to do stand up while battling a debilitating disease was insanely impressive, and though he struggled to get words out the man would KILL onstage,” Rogan said. “He was a real legend, and I’m going to miss him very much.”
