The Coahoma County Sheriff’s Office reports that a Mississippi man shot and killed two toddlers at an apartment complex.
Marquez Griffin, 25, fatally shot a 1-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy at around 2 a.m. on Monday, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said an off-duty deputy arrived to the home after getting a complaint about a child being shot at the Summit Garden Apartments in Jonestown at 2 a.m.
Griffin was holding a toddler at gunpoint when the deputy arrived, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies were then able to convince Griffin to drop his weapon and the child was taken to safety. The two other children, however, were located shortly after with gunshot wounds, the sheriff’s office said.

One of the children died on the spot, while the other died after being taken to the hospital for treatment.
Griffin was charged with murder on two charges and aggravated assault on two counts.
Griffin’s motive, according to the sheriff’s office, remains unknown. The case is still being investigated.
