Who is Marek Hecko?
Marek Hecko, a 26-year-old chef residing in Rookes Crescent, Chelmsford, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment for a minimum of 26 years.
He was found guilty by the Chelmsford Crown Court on March 13 for the murder of Adrian Ellingford, 44, on July 25.

According to reports, Hecko had stabbed Ellingford twice in the back at a property in Nelson Grove, Chelmsford. Following the incident, he told a witness that he had “done something terrible.”
As per the court, Hecko was still obsessed with his ex-girlfriend, whom he had broken up with in May 2022. The Essex and Kent Serious Crime Directorate had arrested him in July 2022 after launching a murder investigation.
He approached the officers, who were guarding the crime scene, carrying a bottle of brandy and claimed he knew what had happened. However, he was arrested for being confrontational, and during his custody, he was identified as the prime suspect.

During the trial at the Chelmsford Crown Court on February 13, Hecko tried to claim that he turned up after seeing the news. But there was no news about the incident online or on social media at that time.
It was later revealed that Hecko killed Ellingford because he was in a relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Stephanie Breame.
Ellingford was asleep when he made a comment about “someone” being in the house, after which Hecko stabbed him, and he collapsed with the knife thrust deeper into his back.

Hecko fled the house immediately, but he was arrested at the police cordon at 7:40 BST after drinking two bottles of wine.
In a statement released after the verdict, Ellingford’s wife, Laura, described him as an “amazing husband of 17 years” and a “truly brilliant” father to their children aged 10 and 12.
The police officer, Det Ch Insp Louise Metcalfe, called it a senseless attack that left two children without a father. He hoped that they could find some closure now that Hecko is behind bars.
