Wendy Morton refers abusive messages allegation against Williamson for independent investigation

Former chief whip Wendy Morton has requested an independent probe by a parliamentary watchdog on a claim that Sir Gavin Williamson sent her “abusive” letters.

The minister for the Cabinet Office was previously the subject of a Conservative Party internal probe for a string of threatening communications he allegedly sent to Ms. Morton after complaining he wasn’t invited to the Queen’s burial.

But now that the claims are being examined, the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme will as well.

When the communications purportedly were delivered, Sir Gavin, a backbencher, accused Ms. Morton of exploiting the monarch’s death to “punish” senior MPs who were unpopular with Liz Truss’s administration.

Sir Gavin concluded the texts, which were first made available to The Sunday Times: “Let’s see how many more times you can f—- us up. For everything, there is a cost.”

Jake Berry, a former leader of the Conservative Party, asserts that the day before he took office, he informed Prime Minister Rishi Sunak that Ms. Morton had filed an official complaint about Sir Gavin’s behavior.

Sir Gavin and Ms. Morton had a “tough relationship,” Cabinet Office minister Oliver Dowden said on Sunday’s Sophy Ridge on Sunday program for Sky News, but Mr. Sunak “wasn’t aware” of any “particular charges.”

The PM stated to broadcasters yesterday that “before making any choices about the future,” it is “appropriate” for an independent complaints probe into the allegations of bullying made against Sir Gavin.
