Tony Blackburn is a British radio presenter and DJ. He was born on January 29, 1943, in Guildford, Surrey, England.
Blackburn began his career as a DJ in the mid-1960s on the pirate radio station Radio Caroline, and later became one of the first DJs to be hired by the BBC’s new pop music station, Radio 1, when it launched in 1967.
Blackburn became one of the most popular and recognizable radio presenters of the 1970s and 1980s, hosting a number of shows on Radio 1 and later on commercial radio stations.
He also presented the BBC TV music show “Top of the Pops” from 1974 to 1984.
Blackburn has won several awards for his work in radio, including the Radio Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.
He continues to present shows on BBC Radio 2 and is regarded as a legend of British radio.
