Who is Shyana James?

The girlfriend of a 15-year-old schoolboy stabbed to death outside a Huddersfield school has described how her friend informed her about the attack, which left her heart “shattered.”

Shyana James, 16, was at Kirklees College in Huddersfield when she received a phone call from a friend informing her of the tragic news about her boyfriend, Khayri McLean, who was stabbed to death yesterday.

Khayri, 15, was stabbed to death outside his school, North Huddersfield Trust School in Fartown, on Wednesday afternoon. Since then, a 16-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murdering him.

Shyana and Khayri had been dating for six months, she said: “My friend phoned me and told me what had happened. My heart was just shattered. She said: ‘Your boyfriend has been hurt.’

“I phoned a taxi firm and when I got to the scene it was all taped off. I saw him lying there with paramedics around him. I went to Leeds General Infirmary with my mum.

“We have been dating for six months and he was a really nice boy. He had just started playing football and enjoyed it.”

Shyana’s mother said her daughter described him as “the perfect boy”. Sherrin James, who left flowers at the scene in Huddersfield, said the pair were “literally inseparable”.

“He was her first proper boyfriend,” Sherrin said. “She absolutely adored him and he absolutely adored her.” A card addressed to “Kharyi” was left with the floral tributes outside the North Huddersfield Trust School, while a GoFundMe page has been set up to give Khayri “the best send off”.

All day, tributes have been pouring in for Khayri. Charley Burrows posted on Facebook: “15 years old After school, I was slashed in the street.

It’s practically on our doorstep. I have no words. Just horrifying. My heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to his mother and family. Khayri, may you rest in peace.”

Sophie Vanessa said: “I can’t imagine saying goodbye to my child in the morning and then after school, they have been murdered. I’m lost for words. This hurts. RIP Khayri.”
