Police appeal for witnesses after two die in south London shooting

Two cars collided with a moped and parked cars in Brixton before a gunman jumped out of one of the cars and shot a man fleeing.

Detectives believe two cars were driving in the Railton Road area when one of them struck a moped before colliding with parked cars.

A man from the crashed car exited the vehicle and was pursued by a man carrying a gun from the second car. The fleeing man was shot and killed on the spot.

The gunman then got back into his car and fled.

As a result of his injuries, the moped rider also died at the scene.

As the violence erupted on the busy street shortly before 8 p.m. last night, witnesses reported hearing 12 shots fired.

The Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command is now investigating.

Officers are still working to formally identify and notify the victims, both in their twenties, but the moped rider was reportedly a delivery driver on his last call out of the day.

Paulo Silva, another delivery driver, said he knew the victim and described him as a “good boy” who was hoping to travel to Brazil next month.

This morning, police cordoned off the area to conduct forensics, leaving smashed cars, an overturned moped, and an abandoned bus.

Officers remain in the area, and residents have been advised to expect an increased police presence.

Four people have been killed in two shootings in the capital in the last five days, following a separate incident in Ilford, east London, on Tuesday that left two men dead and a third injured.
