Police: 4 injured in northwest DC shooting

Four men were shot and wounded Thursday afternoon in Northwest Washington, police said.

The shooting happened around 1:20 p.m. in the 1200 block of North Capitol Street NW. According to police, all four men were conscious half an hour after the shooting. Some of the victims were discovered inside the Tyler House apartment complex.

Benjamin Medrano, a 27-year-old resident of the neighborhood, said he was working from home when he heard about a dozen gunshots outside his window. As he walked his dog down the street, he noticed police and fire officials congregating near North Capitol Street and New York Avenue.

Families peered through the police tape. Sirens wailed. He claimed to have seen a woman screaming, fearful that her son was involved in the incident.

Medrano had walked his dog by an active crime scene in his neighborhood for the second time in less than two months. He was near O and First streets in August when he heard “eight to ten” bangs and saw firetrucks racing toward him. In that incident, two people were killed and three others were injured.

On Thursday, he texted his partner, saying, “We have to find a way out of this area.”

The Thursday shooting is still being investigated.
