Pau Gasol is a retired professional basketball player who was born on July 6, 1980, in Barcelona, Spain. He is widely considered one of the greatest European players in NBA history.
Gasol began his professional career in Spain, playing for Barcelona before being drafted third overall in the 2001 NBA draft by the Memphis Grizzlies.
He played for the Grizzlies for six and a half seasons before being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2008. With the Lakers, Gasol won two NBA championships in 2009 and 2010, and he was a key part of the team’s success during that time.
Over the course of his NBA career, Gasol was a six-time NBA All-Star and won two Olympic silver medals representing Spain in 2008 and 2012.
He retired from professional basketball in 2019, and in 2021, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
